It is my great pleasure to present the third iteration of Boston BarHopper. I began this project in March 2012 with a very basic Wordpress blog format, then moved to the custom template that I've used for the past three and a half years. This new site, built on Squarespace, will give BBH a more contemporary look and will be more conducive to reading on mobile devices.
Please be aware that this is a work in progress. I'm still getting accustomed to Squarespace, and as I learn more, I'll be able to refine the overall appearance and functionality. All of the old posts need some degree of reformatting; there's a button that doesn't work yet; some content isn't where it should be; and then there's these comically large pictures on the desktop version:
But if I waited until it was "done," then I'd be tinkering for months, and you'd all be like "Hey, remember that Boston BarHopper guy? What ever happened to him?" So while this is an ongoing learning experience, I feel like the website is ready to go, and I'm looking forward to getting back to writing.
I'd like to offer my sincere thanks to Michael Vicinelly of VICI Design & Marketing for doing the heavy lifting with regard to the creation of this new site. Michael was responsive from the word go and was great to work with throughout the entire process. I gave him a rough idea of what I was looking for, and he managed to deliver exactly what I had in mind. I look forward to continuing to collaborate with him and am happy to endorse his work.
A final word on the old site. I admit I've had a hard time letting go of it, even though this new version is a step forward. Sure, there were a few minor functionality issues that I was never able to resolve. But in truth, that site never let me down. I have the fondest memories of designing and launching it. I was emotionally invested in it for almost four years, and if it weren't for the fact that it wasn't mobile-friendly, I'd probably still be using it. I will remember it with the deepest affection, but it's time to move on.
Going forward, I hope you enjoy the new digs. My goal is always to offer you the best writing and photography that I'm capable of, and I think this website will enable me to present it in a professional and enduring format.
Thanks for reading, and stay tuned for some new stories.
Cheers!
Matt
